About

I am a Digital Learning Consultant with NHS Blood and Transplant. I work across business, scientific, clinical and healthcare domains to identify where digital learning solutions can be used to meet specific business needs and/or performance problems. I collaborate with Subject Matter Experts and Stakeholders to design, build, test, launch and evaluate digital learning solutions that ensure return on expectation. This involves, amongst other things, a combination of project management skills and the advanced use of specialist digital design and development software. I also perform evidenced-based academic research within the organisation to improve learning and assessment practices, as well as promoting broader linguistic awareness.

I also hold the position of Visiting Fellow at the University of the West of England, Bristol, as part of the Bristol Centre for Linguistics. Through this partnership, I work on interdisciplinary research with impact in linguistic, technological, educational and healthcare domains.

I have 15 years of teaching and training experience across educational and corporate domains, and I maintain a broad research portfolio covering the intersections of education, technology and lingustics, and their application into business contexts.

Research

My areas of research interest cover a range of domains, particularly multimodal communication in interaction and the use of Systemic Functional Linguistics as an analytical and descriptive framework. I am also interested in the intersection of language and technology (i.e., communication in immersive environments, human-computer interaction and computer-mediated communication), language use in healthcare contexts, and educational research in applied contexts (e.g., Higher Education, Adult Education, and business/L&D contexts).

I am happy to discuss collaboration opportunities. Feel free to get in touch using my current contact details.

Teaching

Across my roles (see the About section), I use a range of pedagogic and andragogic techniques to promote a varied, engaging and supportive learning environment. I am a strong advocate of blending social-constructivist, humanist, and cognitivist methods to allow for a range of academic and applied skills to be explored. Doing so assists me in ensuring that formative and summative assessments are used to promote a focus on 'the learning' while giving due acknowledgement of 'the exam,' rather than vice versa.

This is supplemented with innovative uses of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) tools, including digital content authoring software (including but not limited to Articulate 360, VYond, and the Adobe CC Suite) and the full capabiities of Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs). This ensures that I can deliver digital and hybrid learning informatively, accessibly and professionally.
