Research

My areas of research interest cover a range of domains, particularly multimodal communication in interaction and the use of Systemic Functional Linguistics as a framework. I am also interested in the intersection of language and technology (i.e., communication in immersive environments, human-computer interaction and computer-mediated communication) and engage in pedagogic/andragogic research, specifically in the contexts of Higher Education and Adult Education.

I am happy to discuss opportunities for collaboration. Feel free to get in touch using my current contact details.

Teaching

Across my roles (see the About section), I use a range of pedagogic and andragogic techniques to promote a varied, engaging and supportive learning environment. I am a strong advocate of blending social-constructivist, humanist, and cognitivist methods to allow for a range of academic and applied skills to be explored. Doing so assists me in ensuring that formative and summative assessments are used to promote a focus on 'the learning' while giving due acknowledgement of 'the exam,' rather than vice versa. This is supplemented with innovative uses of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) tools and the full capabiities of Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) to ensure that digital and hybrid learning can be both informative and accessible.
